Description

Stuttgart 21 is part of the 1,500 km long “Magistral for Europe” high-speed railway line that connects Paris, Strasbourg, Stuttgart, Ulm, Munich, Vienna and Bratislava. Stuttgart 21 project is a tunnel construction programme that involves heavy rail tracks relocation and improvement of railway service including journey time reduction.

Stuttgart 21 is described as “the largest expansion for rail transport in Baden-Wurttemberg since the 19th century”. The project of Stuttgart 21, that comprises 60 km of new tracks and a six-mile twin-tube tunnel, originated in 1994. Approval for construction was granted in July 2007 with works started in 2010. Construction is expected to be completed by 2020.

CEMtobent CS Plus, a radon tight bentonite waterproofing membrane, was chosen as the ultimate waterproofing system. The scope of works includes:

Red line: New underpass station / Central station for ICE train and fast train (approx. 70.000m² of CEMtobent CS Plus)

Blue line: Full stop train station above ground for regional train service

Purple line: TBM tunnel

Jamie has spent over ten years working as a Quantity Surveyor with a background in the construction industry (from residential build to pharma projects).
